The MEGAMU project, funded by the French National Research Agency, aims to develop innovative methods for assessing and monitoring hydrothermal systems, particularly at La Soufrière volcano in Guadeloupe. La Soufrière, an andesitic composite volcano, has experienced recurrent eruptions and increased volcanic activity since 1998. To better understand this activity, the project deployed Deep Electrical Resistivity Tomography (DERT), focusing on imaging the volcano’s complex subsurface features. The resulting resistivity model revealed significant variability, indicating the circulation of hot acidic saline fluids beneath the volcano. Conductivity gradients highlighted the footprint of active fumaroles, suggesting weathering effects. The conductive anomaly extends several hundred meters deep. The survey’s speed enabled near-instantaneous 3D imaging, crucial for interpreting short-term changes in conductivity and linking them to other geological data.
